Cylburn Arboretum Annual Nature Camp

Spring Break Nature Camp

Summer Nature Camp

About Our Camp

Cylburn Arboretum Friends’ Nature Camp teaches children knowledge of and respect for the nature that surrounds them. Campers will explore our 200+ acres and learn about the plants, animals, fungi, and habitats they encounter. They will spend their days at camp hiking the trails and partaking in environmental education lessons, activities, art, and group games. Our goals are to nurture a sense of wonder and curiosity about the natural world and to help children learn to be good stewards of their environment. All age groups are led by certified teachers and naturalists.

Do you know how amazing the tulip poplar is? Somet Do you know how amazing the tulip poplar is? Sometimes referred to as a tulip tree, these trees are the tallest species of deciduous trees native to North America, often growing above all the other trees in the canopy. Tulip poplars are abundant in forests all over Maryland, and especially in our woodland. So if you’re ever looking at the canopy line and see one tree that appears to be taller than all the others, there is a good chance you’re looking at a tulip poplar. These trees have a beautiful and unique leaf shape, and stunning flowers in the spring. And that’s not all! The Baltimore Oriole is known to favor roosting in tulip poplar trees, and are drawn to the beautiful orange that appears on its flowers. The next time you’re on the trails, try and identify some tulip poplars. Since these trees are very tall, it is often easiest to find tulip poplars by identifying leaves or flowers on the ground.
