Nature Education Center Ribbon Cutting

THANK you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us at our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Nature Education Center!

Thank you to our gracious speakers for their kind remarks: Director Moore, Councilwoman Middleton, Delegate Rosenberg, and Deputy Mayor Dzirasa. We appreciate all of your support!

Thank you to all of our partners who helped us to get to this point: Art Guild, Cityscape Engineering, Intreegue Design, Lewis Contractors, Livegreen Landscape Associates, Metcalfe Architecture & Design, and Ziger|Snead Architects. We could not have done this without you!

Thank you to our fantastic board of directors and all of the donors who have lovingly supported this project.

And of course, a most heartfelt thanks to our city partners, and especially Melissa Grim, Chief Horticulturist. Cheers to all of our future work together!!

Pictured here are Maryland Climate Corps members t Pictured here are Maryland Climate Corps members teaming up with our Head Gardener to rescue tree peonies that were moved in 2018 to a location they haven’t enjoyed. This collection was originally installed by the Roland Park Garden Club in 1980, at a time when tree peonies were not well known and were considered quite rare. They were relocated in 2018 due to a formal garden renovation. In their most recent location, drainage conditions were not ideal, which affected their health.

Woody peonies have been cultivated in China and Japan for over 2,000 years, celebrated for their stunning blooms (the last photo shows a tree peony at Cylburn in bloom in 2017!) and their traditional medicinal uses. These rescued peonies will stay cozy in their temporary home in the cold greenhouse until they can be replanted. Cylburn’s tree peony collection is an unusual collection of mature specimens and a true gem among the arboretum’s holdings. Stay tuned to learn more about their future home, which will be prominently placed within the collection in fall 2026.
