Pop-Up Display: Slime Molds
August 24 @ 10:30 am - 1:30 pm

Come join us in the Nature Education Center to learn about the superpowers of slime molds!
You can find them in your backyard, or here on the trails at Cylburn, where they are vital decomposers in the forest ecosystem, playing an important role in breaking down dead plant material and returning essential nutrients to the soil. These ancient organisms are not plants, animals, or fungi and have no brains, but they do have remarkable abilities that include complex problem-solving and even a form of learning and stored memory. They can navigate mazes and have even been used to model and understand transportation networks like the Tokyo subway system. Come join us to learn about many of their other amazing abilities.
