NEC Drop-in: Where Does the Rain Go?

June 6 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

June’s theme, Cylburn and the Chesapeake Bay, explores how the forests, gardens, streams, and wildlife of Cylburn Arboretum are connected to the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Through hands-on activities discover how plants, animals, and even rainstorms help keep the Bay healthy. In celebration of Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week (June 6–14, 2026), each Saturday highlights a different way Cylburn supports the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem.

All ages are welcome. No fee or registration required (supplies limited). Drop-in anytime between 11am to 12pm.

June 6: Where Does the Rain Go?
Rain falling at Cylburn Arboretum eventually flows to the Chesapeake Bay through streams and rivers. Drop by the Nature Education Center to explore stormwater, watersheds, and the journey a raindrop takes from Cylburn to the Bay through hands-on activities.

June 13: Trees Help the Bay
Trees do more than provide shade — they help keep waterways clean by slowing rain, reducing erosion, and protecting soil. Drop by the Nature Education Center to learn how trees help the Chesapeake Bay and create your own leaf rubbing to take home.

June 20: Native Plants Help the Bay
Native plants support pollinators, provide wildlife habitat, and help absorb rainwater before it reaches streams and rivers. Drop by the Nature Education Center to discover how native plants help the Chesapeake Bay, learn some of the plants growing throughout Cylburn Arboretum, and paint a terracotta pot to take home.

June 27: Tiny Critters, Big Jobs
Worms, insects, pollinators, and other small critters play an important role in keeping forests and ecosystems healthy. Drop by the Nature Education Center to investigate the tiny animals living at Cylburn Arboretum and learn how they help support the Chesapeake Bay. Then, use recycled materials to create your own Bay-friendly bug!
