Gardener’s Workshop: Tool Sharpening

December 11 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
  • « Tree Time: Winter Solstice I
  • Poinsettia Fairies »
Join us for a tool sharpening workshop!

Winter’s the perfect time of the year for many of those woody plant pruning projects! Before you make those final cuts, come and learn from our garden educator, Ron Roberto, on how to sharpen and maintain your own tools.

Please bring the following materials: 1 hand pruner, dry rags, small scrubbing brush, and tools for pruner dismantling (a few of these will be provided by us).

Please read carefully before purchasing your ticket:

  • Ticket option #1 – Workshop Attendance (sharpening set not included): Recommended for returning participants who already purchased our tool sharpening set in the first class. Multi-purpose oil, steel wool and a scouring pad will be provided if needed.

  • Ticket option #2 – Workshop Attendance (sharpening set included): Recommended for new participants. This includes a whetstone block, 3oz multi-purpose oil, steel wool and a scouring pad.

Due to the limited time frame of this workshop, end results depends on the ability to dismantle/reassemble. For ease of dismantling and reassembling, we suggest you bring hand pruners of the following brands: FELCO, ARS, AM Leonard, Corona, and others with similar components.

If you have any questions, feel free to send an email to ron.roberto@cylburn.org

Attendees are to meet at the Nature Education Center Classroom, which is a 1 minute walk behind the Cylburn Mansion.

Don’t miss out on fall yall! Consider this your Don’t miss out on fall yall! Consider this your official reminder to make your way to Cylburn Arboretum in time to see the change of colors. Seen here is one of our Sweet Gum trees by the mansion pathway, swipe ➡️ to see a sugar maple behind Vollmer and a young black gum tree behind the gazebo, all beginning their fall transformations. Come wander around before the leaves drift down and autumn slips away.
