Cylburn Arboretum Tour Information

Cylburn Arboretum Friends is the non-profit organization that has been partnering with the City of Baltimore since 1954 to maintain the grounds and gardens at Cylburn. Our commitment to the Baltimore community is to support the Arboretum through stewardship and educational programming. The Arboretum offers a wide range of enriching opportunities for exploration and learning, welcoming visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. If you’re interested in a group tour, you can choose from three options:

1. History and Heritage- Learn about the history of Cylburn Mansion, the evolution of the site from private estate to public park, and the work of Cylburn Arboretum Friends over the decades.

2. Nature and Ecology- Explore the forested trails of Cylburn while learning about the ecological systems that make this urban green space so unique.

3. Horticulture and Garden Design- Discover the beauty and seasonal highlights of our themed gardens and tree collections.

Redbuds (Cercis canadensis) are in bloom at Cylbur Redbuds (Cercis canadensis) are in bloom at Cylburn Arboretum, and it is a beautiful time to explore Moudry Woods. This patch of woods, located between the Mansion, the Nature Education Center, and the Production Greenhouses, is home to most of the eight different cultivars of redbud trees that you can find at Cylburn.

As you wander the paths, you can compare the blooms of the ‘Tennessee Pink’ redbud with the vibrant flowers of the ‘Appalachian Red’ redbud. As an arboretum, our trees are labeled, making it easy to learn about different species and cultivars as you explore.

One of our favorite ways to enter Moudry Woods is just behind the Mansion, through the Meditation Circle Garden. If you have not wandered through this area before, now is the perfect time. Come on out and choose your favorite redbud!
