About Our Camp

Cylburn Arboretum Friends’ Summer Nature Camp teaches children knowledge of and respect for the nature that surrounds them. Campers will explore our 200+ acres and learn about the plants, animals, fungi, and habitats they encounter. They will spend their days at camp hiking the trails and partaking in environmental education lessons, activities, art, and group games. Our goals are to nurture a sense of wonder and curiosity about the natural world and to help children learn to be good stewards of their environment. All age groups are led by certified teachers and naturalists. Camper to staff ratio is 6:1 to allow for plenty of individualized attention to each camper’s needs. Each camper will receive a Cylburn Nature Camp t-shirt included in their registration.

FAQs

What is a typical day’s schedule at Cylburn Nature Camp?

Campers begin their day with a hike on our beautiful grounds before the day heats up! Afterward, they engage with nature lessons, crafts, outdoor exploration, and games throughout the day. We spend much of our day outside, and schedules vary by theme and age. Our emphasis is on learning, safety, and fun!

How many campers are in each group?

Our camper to staff ratio is 6:1 and “classes” are typically 18 children with 3-4 camp staff.

Can I sign up my child for more than one session?

Due to high demand, each camper is limited to two weeks of camp per summer. Thank you for your understanding!

Are there options for before or after-care?

Our morning drop off window is from 8:45-9am. After-care is available for purchase for all our sessions except the Middle School session.

Are there discounts offered for camp?

We offer 10% off camp registration for Cylburn Arboretum Friends members with at least a family membership ($75 per year). Please note that this discount does not apply to aftercare fees. There are no sibling discounts.

Are there scholarships offered for camp?

Yes! Our Camp Scholarship program is offered through a separate application process but does not guarantee a seat in camp. If you are interested in applying for a Camp scholarship that covers 25%-75% of camp tuition, you must apply through this process. Campers who are already registered and paid for camp will not be considered for Camp Scholarships. Please apply here by March 1 to be considered. Scholarships are limited to our 1-week camps. Families will be notified after March 1 of scholarship status.

How can I enter my member discount code??

On the registration page: enter your Promo code (this will be emailed to all members a few days before Member Registration opens-please purchase your membership by January 3, 2025 to avoid any issues) and click “apply” BEFORE you check out. If you are a member and need your discount code, please email info@cylburn.org.

Am I finished with registration after paying on Eventbrite?

Not quite! All registrants must fill out the Camper Registration and Waiver, which will be emailed to you after registration. Please complete all required forms within two weeks of payment to reserve your child’s place in camp.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel your child’s camp reservation, the following applies. Please note that Eventbrite fees are not refunded for cancellations at any time.

  • Before May 1, 75% of your registration will be refunded.
  • May 1- June 1, 50% of your registration will be refunded.
  • June 1- One week before camp start date, 25% of your registration will be refunded.
  • No refunds will be given after 1 week prior to the camp start date.

Can I register my child for just one week of the two-week session?

No. However, this year we are also offering one-week sessions to offer more flexibility for families.

How can I add my child to a waitlist?

If a session is sold out, please email naturecamp@cylburn.org with your name, your child’s name, and the session(s) you would like to be added to. If space becomes available, we will contact you directly.

How can I give the experience of Cylburn’s Summer Nature Camp to a grandchild, or other child in my family?

You may register and pay for any child in your immediate family, including using your membership discount. Your child’s place will be held with your payment, and will be confirmed upon receipt of your child’s registration forms. If you are not the parent or guardian of the child you are registering, please notify us by email at naturecamp@cylburn.org, so we can match your payment with your child’s registration forms.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Please email additional questions to Education Director Erika Castillo at naturecamp@cylburn.org.

There are so many beautiful blooms in the gardens There are so many beautiful blooms in the gardens at Cylburn Arboretum right now—we hope you’ll visit and enjoy them this weekend!

The Arboretum is free and open to the public six days a week (we’re closed on Mondays), and we love seeing individuals and families make the most of this special green space.

That said, we’ve seen an increase in businesses hosting fee-based activities—such as yoga classes, photo shoots, guided walks, and bike tours—without the required permits. While we welcome everyone to explore and enjoy the Arboretum, please remember: commercial activity on City-owned property is not allowed without a permit.

Help us preserve the peaceful, public nature of Cylburn by respecting this rule—and thank you for being part of the community that makes this place so special!
