Feedback from 2025 Cylburn Camp Parents

  • It’s a wonderful camp. We love the pacing and the variety of programming. It’s a nice space for children to have some true summer fun. Thank you for creating this space.
  • My child was so excited to go to camp every morning! She especially loved her camp counselors. I appreciated how much outdoor time you got in despite the rain.
  • Both of my kids who attended have referred to the nature-aspects of the camp (rather than just the social ones) in their time since attending. Eg “Did you know that woodpeckers eat bugs in trees??”
  • It was a supportive and caring environment for my curious kid!
  • My child was excited to go to camp every day.
  • Staff was very nice. My son was always excited to tell me what they did in camp when I picked him up. We’ll definitely be signing him up next summer!
  • The teachers/counselors were all engaged and friendly. [My child] talked enthusiastically about her day every afternoon. She really enjoyed the morning hikes, the art projects and the games. The pick-up and drop-off were quite easy.
  • We loved everything! The counselors were wonderful as was Erika, thank you for a wonderful two weeks!
  • The entire staff were wonderful and programming was great!!
  • Our kid had a wonderful time. He loved his counselors and I think the balance of instruction and play really worked for him. We really appreciate the effort and care that the staff put into this experience.
  • I love that you share photos at the end of the week – thank you!
  • My camper had the best time and didn’t want it to end.
  • My kids said the counselors were really fun and kind.
  • Our boys loved the experience, the fun and friendliness of the counselors, and being in new places daily within the arboretum.
  • Thank you for all of the knowledge you passed on to our children. [My child] came home each day excited to tell us about the plants he learned about at camp that day.
  • I loved how organized things were. The staff is friendly and caring.
  • My daughter says she really liked the camp counselors. We love the programs and that so much of the camp involves being outdoors and exploring, as well as incorporating hands-on arts projects that teach our daughter about local flora and fauna. She is truly passionate about this camp.
  • This was a great camp for my child. She learned a lot and had fun. Almost every day she comes to me and starts, “Do you know bees evolved from wasps and they have five eyes, … Thank you Ms. Erika and counselors Nathan, Deja and Mara for teaching the kids about nature, caring for them and giving an amazing experience that they would remember.
  • We could just tell that a great time was had, that staff was kind and the level of care was high.

Do you know how amazing the tulip poplar is? Somet Do you know how amazing the tulip poplar is? Sometimes referred to as a tulip tree, these trees are the tallest species of deciduous trees native to North America, often growing above all the other trees in the canopy. Tulip poplars are abundant in forests all over Maryland, and especially in our woodland. So if you’re ever looking at the canopy line and see one tree that appears to be taller than all the others, there is a good chance you’re looking at a tulip poplar. These trees have a beautiful and unique leaf shape, and stunning flowers in the spring. And that’s not all! The Baltimore Oriole is known to favor roosting in tulip poplar trees, and are drawn to the beautiful orange that appears on its flowers. The next time you’re on the trails, try and identify some tulip poplars. Since these trees are very tall, it is often easiest to find tulip poplars by identifying leaves or flowers on the ground.
