For our greens sale!
Many years ago, Cylburn Arboretum Friends wanted to have an event that celebrated
the natural world but also got us all into the holiday spirit. Added bonus: an opportunity
to do a fundraiser with our city partners who grow poinsettias.
Every year our volunteers collect branches, pinecones, berries, dried flowers, grasses
and more by foraging in different locations. Then we curate a mix of 3-5 different types
of greens on our wreath frames and add the bits and pieces of color and bling. Or we
bundle together a swag of delicious smelling boughs with a handmade bow.
Winter floral and foliage arrangements are a great way to make your space feel more
cozy and festive. Our head gardener, Fig, will be working while you shop again – putting
special additions into your bundles of greens upon request or making wreaths while you
check out Cylburn themed ornaments, tea towels and gift baskets.
And then there are the poinsettias. These beautiful flowers might not be what you think –
the bright “petals” are actually leaves. The true flower is at the center of the colorful
leaves. Cylburn’s greenhouse team plants over 1,000 in the summer so that they are
ready to be displayed throughout Baltimore during the holidays – from City Hall to your
home or office.
