The Gardens

Many beautiful gardens ornament the grounds at Cylburn, most are located near and around the Mansion.

Cylburn has a wide variety of beautifully planted flower gardens displaying shrubs, perennials and annuals. From the “named” gardens that honor those who have played important roles in Cylburn’s history to the colorful plantings that enhance the mansion and points around the grounds, each garden offers a collection of colors and textures that delight visitors throughout the year.

The Blue hue you see from the wings of Blue jays i The Blue hue you see from the wings of Blue jays isn’t a blue pigmentation, it’s actually an optical illusion called structural coordination. Tiny intricate structures reflect light off the thin layers and refract, creating a vibrant light blue that signals high health and genetic quality to a Blue jays potential mate. This is the same in other blue birds, and is a similar illusion that makes fish, butterflies and even our blue/green eyes appear the colors that they do!
